The Gumball Diary (Thursday April 25)
1940 - I95
Running in a small pack at the moment after getting out of NYC without
too much difficulty (apart from the Green Stingray overheating in the traffic
out of the Lincoln Tunnel). Already heard that the black Russian 996 turbo
has been picked up, possibly as much for his Russian license plates as his speed.
We've currently got a yellow Ferrari, the green Stingray, and a red Viper with
us at the moment - let's see what happens as the evening progresses.
First stop is the Center Café in Washington DC - hopefully getting in there at
about 2200.
2040 - I295
Some interesting action seen already - I think five Ferraris, the Mercedes
station wagon, and a black Aston already sitting on the hard shoulder with a
police car behind them. Possibly not the best start for those guys.
We're currently having a rough time with the combination of the rough roads
and the stiffened suspension that we've got, getting shaken to bits though.
Looks as though we'll only be able to post updates to the site when we get
to a landline as the cellular connection just isn't proving possible, saying
that, given the problems that I had this morning trying to connect to the
site with a landline, I'm hoping that it won't be too bad in the future.
I295 is definitely quieter than the Jersey turnpike, not another Gumballer
in sight!
2205 - I95
Have been caught up, and passed by, the chaps in the Skyline - makes one Hell
of a noise - amazing that those guys drive it as their regular day car.
Stopped for gas a little while back with the Stingray - the gas station
attendant didn't know what to make of us - kind of similar to all the toll
both attendants we've seen so far really.
Two way radios are currently seeming to be the best form of communication between
the cars; having problems with the CB, but that may be more to do with the fact
that we've never used one before!!
Looks as though we need to revise our initial though of 2200 might have been a
little optimistic - guess that 2300 is looking more likely now.
2330 - Centre Cafe, Washington DC
Made it! How the folk without Sat Nav managed to complete the last
part through the centre of DC I'll never know!
Not really a checkpoint, more just a stop for coffee and doughnuts
before embarking on our next step - 678 miles to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel
in Nashville through the night.
Rather annoyingly the battery in the camera has died, so no new
pictures during the night.
